Aboriginal Dreamtime Space
Dreamtime Meaning
According to Aboriginal belief, all life as it exists today – human, animal, bird, and fish – is part of a vast unchanging network of relationships that can be traced back to the Dreamtime’s great spirit ancestors
The Dreamtime lives on in the spiritual lives of aboriginal people today as the “Dreaming.”
The events of the ancient era of creation are acted out in ceremonies and mime danced.

The Sacred World
The Dreamtime is the Aboriginal understanding of the world, its creation, and the great stories that surround it.
The Dreamtime is the origin of knowledge, from which the laws of existence arose.
These laws must be followed in order to survive.
The Ancestor Beings lived in the Dreaming World.
They arose from the earth during their creation.
The world’s time began when these supernatural beings were “born out of their own Eternity.”
The Earth was a flat, dark surface.
A lifeless, silent world.
Unknown forms of life were dormant beneath the land’s surface.
Then, with tumultuous force, the supernatural Ancestor Beings broke through the crust of the earth from below. The sun emerged from the ground.
For the first time, the land was illuminated.
The supernatural Beings, or Totemic Ancestors, looked like animals or plants and were half-human.
They moved across the world’s barren surface.
They traveled, hunted, fought, and altered the landscape.
They created the landscape, the mountains, rivers, trees, waterholes, plains, and sandhills on their journeys.
They created the people, who are descended from the Dreamtime ancestors.
They created the Ant, the Grasshopper, the Emu, the Eagle, the Crow, the Parrot, the Wallaby, the Kangaroo, the Lizard, the Snake, and all food plants.
They created the natural elements of water, air, and fire.
They created all celestial bodies, including the Sun, Moon, and Stars
” OUR LAND OUR LIFE ”
‘We don’t own the land, the land owns us’
‘The Land is my mother, my mother is the land’
‘Land is the starting point to where it all began. It is like picking up a piece of dirt and saying this is where I started and this is where I will go’
‘The land is our food, our culture, our spirit, and identity’
‘We don’t have boundaries like fences, as farmers do. We have spiritual connections’
To Indigenous people land is not just something that they can own or trade. The land has a spiritual value.
